To ensure excellent drilling performance in real working conditions, it is not enough for a rock drill to have strong technical specifications. Proper operation and timely maintenance by the operator are equally important. This section summarizes practical guidance on the use and upkeep of pneumatic rock drills.
Before using a new machine, disassemble and clean its internal parts to remove the rust-preventive oil applied at the factory. During reassembly, apply lubricating oil to all mating surfaces.
Before connecting to the compressed-air line, blow out and clean dirt from the air hose and fittings. This prevents debris from entering the machine and scratching internal parts. Also check that all threaded connections are tight and that the operating handle moves freely and reliably, to prevent loose components or hoses from causing injury and to ensure normal operation.
Before starting the machine, return the control valve and pressure-regulating valve to the closed position. Fill the lubricator with oil and adjust the oil valve properly. During operation, refill the lubricator every hour. Never run the machine without lubricating oil, and do not use grease as a substitute.
When first starting the drill, open the air supply slightly and let it idle for 3–5 minutes. Begin full operation only after normal running is confirmed. Replace worn-out parts in time to keep the machine in proper condition.
At the start of drilling, also begin with a small air opening. As the air-leg thrust increases gradually, increase airflow gradually as well. Do not open to full airflow suddenly, as this can damage components. When withdrawing the drill steel, half throttle is recommended.
After finishing work, shut off the water line and run the machine lightly for a short time to blow out residual water. This helps prevent internal corrosion.
Whether using wet drilling or dry drilling, never remove the water needle. Removing it will prevent normal machine operation.
In normal use, the two long-bolt nuts can loosen easily. Tighten them promptly during drilling to avoid internal damage. Also keep checking for loose hose nuts to prevent injury. Watch for sudden drill-steel breakage during operation to avoid accidents.
If a used machine will be stored for a long period, disassemble it, clean it thoroughly, apply protective oil, and store it properly.
